What to know first
Read an overview of what a charter school is
Charter schools are held to a high standard of accountability in exchange for the greater flexibility that the model allows.
If you open, or your school becomes, a charter school, its contract will set out minimum performance thresholds in attendance and achievement that you school will need to meet. You’ll be monitored against these minimums and be expected to show consistent and ongoing progress beyond these.
You will also be monitored on your financial management and compliance with all other requirements.

Available support
The charter school model provides Crown-funded support to help navigate the application process and open the school. Getting the right assistance at the right time means sponsors can hit the ground running.
Support includes helping prospective sponsors with their applications, working with approved sponsors to provide initial support in setting up, and day-to-day operational support up to the first six months of operation.
